City Of South Lake Tahoe is Hiring a Recreation Leader Near South Lake Tahoe, CA

The City of South Lake Tahoe is hiring for a Recreation Leader. This position will help facilitate new recreation programs at the Recreation Center in the evenings and weekends in order to expand programming and hours/days of operation.
Candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends.

Under direction of assigned supervisory or management staff, the Parks and Recreation Leader, plans, organizes, and coordinates parks and recreation programs with multiple functions or areas including facility management; and to provide technical staff assistance.
 
Identifying Characteristics:
Employees within this class are distinguished by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including planning, organizing and coordinating parks and recreation programs specific to park ranger programs, youth programs, aquatics programs, campground operations or golf course programs and operations. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The incumbent exercises direct and indirect supervision over clerical, full-time, part-time and temporary personnel and independent contractors. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
 
 1. Assists in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
 2. Plans, organizes and coordinates programs with distinct program area functions related to park ranger programs, youth programs, aquatics programs, campground or golf course operations.
 3. Prepares reports; maintains files and records.
 4. Meets with public groups, clubs organizations, and agencies to identify community needs and recommends appropriate programs.
 5. Conducts and supervises assigned program and special events; develops and administers contracts specific to assigned area.
 6. Prepares purchase requisitions; orders supplies and materials, maintains inventory levels for program supplies .
 7. Assists in preparing and administering a program budget; monitors expenditures, handles daily revenue reconciliation of monies received and daily deposits for specific program area.
 8. Receives and reviews reports from staff members.
 9. Responds to complaints and requests for information.
 10. Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff under direct supervision of Parks and Recreation Manager.
 11. Attends professional workshops, seminars, and conferences.
 12. Performs related duties as required. QUALIFICATION:
The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
 
Knowledge of:
  • Methods, techniques and procedures used in the planning, development and delivery of programs and operations related to park ranger programs, youth programs, aquatics programs, campground or golf course operations.
  • Common recreational and social needs of various age groups.
  • Principles and procedures for implementing and directing activities and facility operations related to park ranger programs, youth programs, aquatics programs, campground or golf course.
  • Principles and procedures of safety risk management.
  • Training others in recreation programming such as park ranger programs, youth programs, aquatics programs, campground or golf course.
 
Ability to:
  • Know and understand all aspects of the job.
  • Intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects.
  • Identify and interpret technical and numerical information.
  • Observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures.
  • Develop and coordinate a community services or recreation program suited to the needs of the community.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement a community services or recreation program with multiple program areas.
  • Analyze, interpret, and explain division policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates under direct supervision of Parks and Recreation Manager..
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
 
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Education/Training:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field.
 
Experience:
Two years of community service or recreation program coordination and implementation experience specific to park ranger programs, campground, golf course, aquatics or youth program operations.

Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and at indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; travel to different locations; incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and may have some contact with chemical agents used in pool maintenance; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surface.
Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
